Thanks for the tips and advice; I really learned a lot by watching this video. I agree with Coach Paul keeping these kids active and being able to set the ground rules to the parents is important. Having enthusiasm is the key in learning a new sport.
Thanks for the comments. I am glad you learned some things from the video. Feel free to post any questions or coaching challenges you may be having and I will do my best to help. It is comforting to know that someone else believes that ground rules for parents as well as keeping the kids active and being full of enthusiasm are important points.
Some great points in this video for new and inexperienced coaches with very young players. Your young players need to be encouraged to come back to training each week so the enthusiasm you talk about is crucial. Check out more youth coaching tips on this video clip which includes the philosophies from coaches in a variety of sports. They are really inspirational. http://www.bettersoccercoaching.com/Article-1793–1–Soccer-coaching-methods-from-leading-youth-sports-coaches
Thanks for stopping by again and leaving a comment. As a coach of kids at this age it really is important to “entertain” them and inspire them to want to come back again next week, thanks for pointing that out. Cheers!
After watching your video it completely changed what I thought was the intuitive way to teach U6 girls – kicking the ball, drills, and waiting in line. After watching your eye opening video, we immediately implemented your concepts – keeping a ball at their feet, having a safe island with coaches as the sharks, and a scrimmage. I was floored at how not only effective the techniques were in training the girls, but how much they enjoyed the practice and how HARD they worked. They were exhausted at the end, and they were visibly better at dribbling the ball, so it was a great win. Thanks for the advice!!!
Paul, the instructional video for U6 soccer was terrific. Thanks for the great ideas on drills and how to keep the kids engaged. It is amazing how much more the kids learn when they don’t realize they are being taught. Great stuff, keep it up and I’ll pass this on to the other coaches I know. Thanks for the help!
Thanks for the comment Rick. I agree, when you see the kids working so hard and learning so much when they don’t even realize it, then you have had a good practice!
Please keep stopping by the blog and let me know how your practices progress. Cheers. Don’t forget to follow me on twitter and become a facebook fan!
Hello Luis, thanks for the feedback. I am glad the girls had a great time while working so hard and learning at the same time! Let me know how your practices go and don’t forget, I am always here to help! Cheers!
